Hurriyet leaders welcome Ban Ki-Moon’s statement

Srinagar, June 24 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference and other pro-liberation parties have welcomed the statement of the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon that the Kashmir dispute needed to be resolved peacefully through dialogue.

The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in a statement in Srinagar said that the UN had begun to realise its responsibility towards the Kashmir dispute. “It is encouraging to see the role of the UN vis-a-vis political and human rights in Kashmir,” he maintained.

The Mirwaiz said, the world is talking about settlement of the Kashmir dispute due to sacrifices rendered by the Kashmiris during past 64 years especially since 1989. “It is time for the international community to impress upon India to resolve the dispute in accordance with Kashmiris’ aspiration, he added.

Veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani in his statement said that Kashmir was not a border dispute between India and Pakistan. “It is a hard reality that Kashmir dispute is pertaining to the future of thirteen million people and it is the moral and constitutional obligation of the UN Security Council and Ban Ki-moon to implement the 18 resolutions passed by the World Body on Kashmir,” he maintained.

The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement, terming the remarks of the UN Secretary General as a good sign, said that the Kashmiris needed to be on board for any dialogue process aimed at resolving the dispute. He said that the statement was a welcome development but he wanted to convey that Kashmir was not a border dispute between India and Pakistan but was an issue of the future of Kashmiri people.

APHC leaders including Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Yasmeen Raja and Zafar Akbar Butt welcoming the statement of Ban Ki-moon, said that the time had come that the world community should come forward for resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations.
