'They left without consulting others'

Srinagar, Dec 16: Senior Hurriyat Conference (M) leader and Chairman Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah on Sunday said that no other leader was consulted before the Hurriyat (M) delegation flew to Islamabad.
“It was through media that I came to know that Hurriyat delegation is leaving for New Delhi. We all represent sacrifices and aspirations of the nation. It is because of people that we’ve been recognized in international forums and communities and are being invited in various forums. Hurriyat team should have consulted Syed Ali Shah Geelani Sahib, Yasin Malik and all pro-freedom leaders,” Shah told KNS.
“We’re not against Pakistan visit but it was better if we could have unanimously reached a consensus as it would have borne more fruits and the visit would have had more weight”, he added.
He said the Hurriyat (M) is an amalgam of various associations and its constitution is clear that the all associations are fighting for right to self determination. “Mirwaiz Sahib is Chairman of this amalgam. He should make it very clear whether he is going to represent his own party there or the Hurriyat as a whole”, said Shah.
Referring to division among Hurriyat ranks, Shah said, “Divisions among leadership is an dvantage for our opponents. Unification is a must in the interest of Kashmir movement to reap desired results. It will be better to work under one programme and not to issue individual party programmes. Announcing joint programmes after consultation will be more effective’, said Shah.
Reacting to the statement of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq where in he had said that hardliner separatist groups should change their outlook, Shah said: ‘Mirwaiz should explain the statement to the people and clarify what outlook he was talking about.’
Appreciating statement of Syed Ali Shah Geelani wherein he had said that unification of Hurriyat is possible on the basic principles of right to self determination, Shah said, “I welcome and appreciate the statement of Geelani Sahib. We (Hurriyat) are fighting for right to self determination and the constitution of Hurriyat clearly speaks about it. All Hurriyat leaders should come on the table and should make collective effort to achieve this goal. Let us all unite on this basic principle”, he said.
Speaking about the Indo-Pak dialogue, he said that no Hurriyat leader is against the dialogue process. “Constitution of Hurriyat states that it should be tripartite dialogue where India, Pakistan and representatives of Kashmir are involved. I admit that in past we committed some mistakes but now we’re aware about the facts. It is India who has to initiate the meaningful dialogue and it should be held under the supervision of world independent observers. The observers of the dialogue will see who is running away from the table and who is sincere in the process. I appeal international community, European Union in general and UNO in particular to hold plebiscite in JK as it was held in East Timor and South Sweden,” he added.
Senior Hurriyat leader reiterated his demand for the institutionalization of the Hurriyat. “We’ve to go at grass root level and reach out to orphans, widows and other affected people. Every person of the nation is supporting this view. People should ascertain the facts to know who is creating hurdles in this process”, said Shah. KNS

Hurriyet leaders aghast over US court verdict against Dr Fai

NISAR AHMED THOKAR
Islamabad/Srinagar Mar 31: Expressing dissatisfaction over the US court’s verdict against veteran Kashmiri scholar Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai, Kashmiris on this side of the Line of Control on Saturday said the judgment had come as a shock to Kashmiris.
The convener of Hurriyat Conference (M) Pakistan and AJK chapter Mehmood Ahmed Saghar while talking to Greater Kashmir said, “Dr Fai is a proud son of the soil who has been championing legitimate cause of Kashmiris’ at international level for more than 25 years. For us he (Dr Fai) is a great patriot, who served Kashmiris’ cause for Right to Self Determination diligently and selflessly over the years on diplomatic front”, Saghar said.
“Dr Fai’s years-long struggle on diplomatic front stands witness to the fact that he worked within the parameters and in accordance with the US policy regarding Kashmir,” he added. Referring to the UN resolution on Kashmir Saghar said the United States was the co-sponsor of the historic resolution that gave legitimacy to Kashmir issue. He stated that it was under the direction of President Harry Truman, the then president of the United States that the US ambassador to the UN, Ambassador Huston wrote the resolution guaranteeing right to self-determination to Kashmiri people.
Saghar said that Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir was based on the relevant UN resolutions on Kashmir and “It does not mean that any person promoting and pleading right to self-determination for Kashmiris is working on Pakistan’s agenda.”
“Such an argument” he said lacks credibility and is devoid of any meaning and substance.
He also expressed his sympathy with Dr Fai and his family and said the whole Kashmiri nation stands with them.
Shabir Shah disappointed
Terming imprisonment sentence to Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai as unfortunate and disappointing, chairman of Democratic Freedom Party Shabir Ahmad Shah Saturday said such punishments in a democratic country like USA were not only disappointing but undemocratic.
In a statement, Shah said, “Lobbying is not illegal according to USA law and punishing a separatist who was working for the Kashmir cause cannot be justified.”
He vowed that Kashmiris would not be deterred by such acts and the movement would be carried forward at any cost.
Verdict unfortunate:
Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Peoples Freedom League, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani said, “An American court’s judgment to sentence Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai to 2 years imprisonment has surprised and shocked the people of Kashmir across region for he was advocating the cause of the basic human rights and the right of self-determination as envisaged in the UN charter and relevant security council resolutions for the last several decades in US”.
The latest harsh court judgment he said won’t really send a good message to Kashmiris and all those people who expected and also demanded American facilitation in the sub-continent on the dispute of Kashmir.
He was of the view that the US should ponder one thousand times before giving up its helpful role in resolving the Kashmir issue and should not hurt the sentiments of Kashmiris.
Ghulam Muhammad Safi, the convener of Hurriyat (G) while terming the court verdict as politically motivated said that the judgement amply demonstrates the United State’s double standard vis-à-vis Kashmir and Pakistan.
Move to appease India: Salahuddin

Shah said that on November 6 lakhs of Muslims of Jammu were killed without any reasons. “We cannot forget that day when our Muslim brothers were snatched from us and killed indiscriminately,” he said adding that the Muslims of the Jammu region have always been at the forefront in the freedom struggle. Shah held these views while interacting with his party workers. He also addressed the party workers in Seer, Islamabad.
Reiterating his stand that all the three regions of the valley have offered countless sacrifices for the freedom struggle, Shah said that the question of division in any part is never a possible solution. “We are against the division of the state. The Muslims of the Jammu have offered huge sacrifices for the freedom struggle. so they cannot be separated from the valley by any means. We will not in any manner left the pro-freedom groups of the Jammu alone in the freedom struggle. They had never deterred in offering sacrifices for the freedom movement,’ he said. Shah in the current year had tried to visit various places like Rajouri, Doda, Kishtawar but the government had always arrested him and never allowed him to met the people. Shah further said that very soon he will visit Jammu and meet the pro-freedom groups and hold deliberations with them on the Kashmir issue and the ways and needs to address it. He said that the sacrifices offered by the people for their nation had never gone waste and so not will be the Kashmir's. “History is testimony to the fact that the revolutions in France and Russia or even the Indian struggle bear the fruits for their respective nations. It has been proved every time that in between a fight between the oppressor and the oppressed, at the end it is the oppressed who comes out victorious from the battle field,’ he said.
shah said the solution to the Kashmir lies only in giving the people the right to self-determination. The lakhs of sacrifices offered by the people had no substitute other the freedom. By offering the people something other than freedom is just putting salt on our wounds. Nothing short of freedom will be acceptable to the people who have been offering sacrifices from the last six decades for freedom .
He said that the Kashmiri nation is much alive and much interested I the freedom and they will not rest till they get their aim, the freedom for the valley. He also praised the both the opposition and the ruling parties of Pakistan for their extended moral, diplomatic and political support for a final settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN resolutions and wishes of the Kashmiri people. It is the responsibility of the government to protect the minority community from any difficulty. The communal forces who are trying to create tension and confusion among the people should be dealt with and it is the responsibility of the authorities, he said. It is very unfortunate that the communal forces are hell bent upon breaking the brotherhood of the communities that have withstood the testing of times. We are fighting for the same cause and unification of the separatist leadership across the board is in the interest of the cause”, Shah said.

He said the agitation threat by Geelani was not issued after consultation with other leaders of the separatist camp or the Hurriyat Conference. “Geelani Sahib has neither contacted us nor consulted us. In my opinion, he should have contacted Mirwaiz Sahib, Malik Sahib and other Hurriyat leaders as we are all fighting for the same cause”, said Shah. On the proposed macadamization of the Amarnath route, he said that media has reported the news in detail and that more investigations were going on from Hurriyat side into the reports.Shah said Kashmiris have proved best hosts to the Yatris and would continue to do so. “We’re ready to carry them (Yatris) on our shoulders to the cave,” Shah added.

He said that the Kashmir issue is universally accepted dispute and President of America Barrack Obama during his visit to India admitted it. He said that the India has to respect the sentiments of the people of Kashmir. “Some of our fellow Kashmiris deceived the nation in 1975 by signing an accord. Our mission will not get changed by any circumstances,Shabir shah

Srinagar October 9 : Senior leader of APHC and president of jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party Shabir Ahmad Shah Tuesday said that it has become imperative that the freedom struggle should be infused with much vigor and heartiness and there should be no compromise on that front.
Those who feel that they are tired or they are hungry for power should choose their own path and should not become an impediment in the sacred freedom movement. Nobody will be allowed to make any compromise on the sacrifices that the people have been offering from the last decades. Our mission will not get changed by any circumstances,” Shah said this while holding an interaction with the party workers at the party headquarters.

While referring to the Indian struggle he said that they were able to free themselves from the slavery of the British rule after 100 years. He said that we were slaves of the dogra rule till 1947 and after that India occupied the land illegally. It is unfortunate that India is portraying the illegal occupation of the valley as a democracy in order to befool the whole world, and for their evil designs they have been utilizing the services of the Kashmiris people,” he said. “Sapranchs and the punches are being made scapegoats under a deep rooted conspiracy. The so called Panchayat members should take every care in order to avoid becoming scapegoats,” he added. We salute the emotions and the courage of the students who stood up against the political activities that are against the sacred cause. This should be an eye opener for the authorities that the youth have become conscious and of their rights,” he said.
He also criticized the statement of P Chidambaram wherein he had stated that the situation has improved in the valley. “P C is indulging in jugglery of words. Sometimes he says that that Kashmir needs a unique solution and at other times he says that the situation has improved a lot and the youth are protesting for employment and other problems and not Azadi. This is far from the reality,” he said. If P Chidambaram is so confident that the people in the valley do not want Azadi, then it is a golden chance for India to hold a plebiscite here and everything will be clear to one and all,” shah said. We want that all the people in the valley irrespective of their ideologies should come under one umbrella and work for the common good. That is our aim and ideology.

But the principle of partition and the right to self-determination of Jammu and Kashmir was trampled down under India’s military aggression on Kashmir; resulting in occupation, genocide and migration of the people throughout, by India, especially in Jammu.
He said, “Today, after 81 years of freedom struggle we stand nowhere as a nation. Empty rhetoric can’t salvage our jolting ship in storm. He held “government agencies” responsible for the attack carried out on him at Khanyar during his visit to the gutted shrine of Dastgeer Sahib (RA). “Certain agencies have succeeded in hiring people like they did when they hired the renegade militants to commit atrocities against people”, he said.
However, Shah said the Hurriyet Conference had made certain commitments and given assurances at the time of his joining the conglomerate, which have not been fulfilled till date. “Hurriyat has failed so far to reach out to people. We need to connect with people and understand their problems in their totality”, he said.
